Wine Review: Frexienet Cordon Oro Cava

I’m not much of a drinker, it’s not compatible with a driving job. But when Sarah unpacked a bottle of Cordon Oro Cava (approx £9.49) on Friday I was determined to try some.

Frexienet Cordon Oro Cava

Determined because Madam had hid the bottle muttering something about keeping it safe to review it later. Clearly she did not want to share and I was not getting the hint!

What it says on the bottle -
Freixenet Cordon Oro derives its superior quality and elegant sparkle from a long period of maturation and the Traditional Method of second fermentation in bottle.
A classic Cava, it is created from a special blend of Macabeo, Xarel-lo and Parellada grapes, indigenous to the Cava region, outside Barcelona.

Bright in colour with hints of gold and mid-sized bubbles, Cordon Oro is a remarkably refreshing sparkling wine. As a semi seco, it is easy to drink, with apple, pear and citrus notes, softly balanced acidity and an elegantly floral finish.

The reality -

A pale gold liquid with fat bubbles that I don’t normally associate with Frexienet’s Cava. Not unpleasant just unexpected. The scent is very fragrant and fruity – incredibly appealing. And it tastes very nice :)

I agree it is very easy to drink, and it is a perfect summer drink  - ideal for outdoor eating or a summer barbecue.

I would buy this to drink and I recommend that you get a bottle or two for your next barbie. Just don’t drink it out of pint glasses like we did or it doesn’t go very far. Time to buy some wine glasses I think!

    Did Doug Jenner write this?
